Retting: the stem of jute is dried and stripped of unwanted leaves and is put in water and allowed to rot. This is known as retting. It is associated with jute.

Ginning: It is a process in which fibres are separated from seeds. It is associated with cotton.

Ratooning cropping system is a method in which after harvesting a crop, a little stalk in soil is left with roots. Any crop obtained from the roots of the leftover crop is known as ratoon. It is associated with sugarcane.
